The 2018 BET Board election was completed at the organisation’s Annual General Meeting last week, and we would like to thank all our Members who took part in the voting process.
The election resulted in the re-election of Paula Leishman (Owner and Managing Director of Leishman Associates) and the appointment of Maria Lurighi (Guest Experiences and Partnerships Director at Mona) to the BET Board of Directors. Congratulations to both Paula and Maria, their hands-on business events experience and industry knowledge will be a great asset to BET.
In a new role of Guest experiences and Partnerships Director at Mona, and having just completed 6.5 years as Director of Hospitality Operations at Mona, Maria has over 40 years Hospitality Industry experience.
Currently Directing and collaborating a team at Mona which delivers over 300 events a year across corporate business, Education and Festival Hospitality. During 18 years of living and working in Tasmania she has also held the positions of senior Management in the Wine industry, Business Development Manager for 10 Days on the Island and General Manager for Hill Street Grocer West Hobart.
Maria has worked on a number of boards across Industry and the Arts. Wine South, Festival of Voices, Tasmanian Youth Orchestra and was chair of the arts individual grants panel for 3 years and served on the arts advisory board for Tasmania.
Maria’s passion and enthusiasm for everything she undertakes and particularly for the business events industry is obvious to anyone who meets her. BET is lucky to have her as a champion for our industry and we look forward to continuing to work closely together.
The election resulted in long standing Board Director Ralph Freckleton (General Manager, Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart) not being re-elected but BET would like to sincerely thank Ralph for the time he has committed to Business Events Tasmania as a Director since being elected onto the BET Board in 2006.
As a Director, Ralph has always been engaged, generous with his time and dedicated to the industry and our organisation. The industry and venue specific knowledge that Ralph has brought to the Board table has been invaluable.
Positions on the BET Board of Directors are unpaid and require a considerable commitment from those elected. BET greatly values the hard work, experience and knowledge contributed by all Directors.
